मेरे नाना 24 25 वर्ष के हो होंगे, यह तब की बात है। वह अक्सर रात के खाने के बाद बाहर टहलने जाते थे। वह रात भी मेरे नाना टहलने निकल पड़े,रात के 11:00 बजे वह अपने दोस्त के मिठाई के दुकान के बाहर खड़े रहकर अपने दोस्त से गपशप कर रहे थे। बात करते-करते रात के 12:30 बज गए और उन्हें पता ही नहीं चला।
ठीक 12:30 बजे के करीब एक बहुत गोरा, बहुत खूबसूरत बूढ़ा इंसान वहां आ गया, उसने एक बड़ी टोकरी मिठाई की खरीदी।टोकरी में 15 20 किलो मिठाई होने के कारण वजन काफी ज्यादा हो गया था। मेरे नाना वहीं खड़े उन्हें देख रहे थे। मेरे नाना को वहीं खड़े देखकर वह बूढ़े ने उन्हें मिठाई की टोकरी उठाकर साथ चलने को कहा।
मेरे नाना यह सुनकर बहुत चौक गए थे ,उन्हें लगा कि यह व्यक्ति मुझसे ऐसा क्यों कह रहा है? मेरे नाना के दोस्त ने इशारा करते हुए कहा कि चले जाओ उन्हें तुम्हारी मदद की जरूरत होगी। दोस्त के कहने पर मेरे नाना वह बुड्ढे के साथ टोकरी उठाकर चल पड़े।
अब रात के 2:00 बज रहे थे मेरे नाना बस चलते ही जा रहे थे। वह बूढ़ इंसान का घर आ ही नहीं रहा था ।वह बूढ़े उनको जंगल के रास्ते से ले जा रहा था। उस ज़माने में बस्ती बहुत दुरदुर हुए करति थी। मेरे नाना अब बहुत थक चुके थे, आखिर में उन्होंने पूछा कि चाचा आपका घर इतने जंगल में क्यों है?और हम कब पहुंचेंगे? वह बूढ़े ने घूरते हुए मेरे नाना से कहा कि, "बस थोड़ी देर में घर आ जाएगा"।
चलते चलते एक बड़ा बरगद का पेड़ दिखाई दिया, उन्होंने मेरे नाना को वह मिठाई की टोकरी बरगद के पेड़ के नीचे रखने को कहा। मेरे नाना ने वह बूढ़े आदमी से पूछा कि,"चाचा यहां दूर-दूर तक मुझे कोई घर नजर नहीं आ रहा है"। बूढ़े आदमी ने गुस्से से जवाब देते हुए कहा कि,"यह सोचना तुम्हारा काम नहीं है तुम जा सकते हो", और जाते समय बूढ़े आदमी ने मेरे नाना के जेब में कुछ डाल दिया। मेरे नाना अपने जेब में देखने जा रहे थे पर बूढ़े आदमी ने उन्हें मना करते हुए कहा कि घर जाकर ही देखना।
अब मेरे नाना अकेले ही घर लौट रहे थे उन्हें सबर नहीं हो रहा था ,आखिर में उन्होंने अपने जेब में देखी लिया। मेरे नाना ने देखा तो पता चला कि यह तो 5 6 कोयले के टुकड़े हैं। उन्हें बहुत गुस्सा आया उन्होंने उसी वक्त सारे कोयले फेंक दिए और घर लौट कर सो गए। सुबह जब मेरी नानी कपड़े धोने के लिए उठी तो उन्हें मेरे नाना के पैंट की जेब से एक हीरे का टुकड़ा मिला, उन्होंने फौरन मेरे नाना को गहरी नींद से उठाकर पूछा यह "हीरा" कहां से आया? इसका जवाब मेरे नाना के पास भी नहीं था वह फौरन अपने दोस्त के मिठाई की दुकान पर पहुंच गए और उन्हें सारी कहानी बताई और पूछा वह बूढ़ा आखिर कौन था??
दोस्त ने हंसते-हंसते जवाब देते हुए कहा अरे यार! वह एक जीन था। तू इतना लापरवाह कैसे हो सकता है। मेरे नाना यह सुनकर बहुत पछताए, वह समझ गए कि वह कोयला ही सुबह हीरा बन गया।

English translation:
This is the story when my grandfather would be 24 to 25 years old. He often went for a walk outside after dinner.That night my grandfather went for a walk, at 11:00 in the night he was standing outside his friend's sweet shop and gossiping with his friend. It was past 12 and the didn't even realise.
Just around 12:30 pm, a very fair and good looking old man came there and bought a large basket of sweets. The weight was very heavy due to the 15 20 kg sweets in it. My grandfather was standing there watching him. Seeing my maternal grandfather standing there, the old man asked him to pick up the basket of sweets and follow along.
My maternal grandfather was stunned to hear this, he wondered why this person is saying this to me? My grandfather's friend said, "Go with him he might need your help." At the behest of his friend, my maternal grandfather took the basket and started following the old man.
Now it was 2:00 in the night, my grandfather
kept going .That old man's house was not visible anywhere. He was making my grandfather walked through the path of the forest. There was no settlement at that time. My grandfather was very tired now, finally he asked'"uncle why your house is in such a forest? and when will we reach? The old man kept staring and told my grandfather, "we will reach home in a short time".
While walking, a big banyan tree appeared, he told my grandfather to put that sweet basket under the banyan tree. My grandfather asked the old man, "I do not see any house far and wide here, uncle". The old man replied angrily, saying, "It is not your business to think you can go", and while leaving, the old man put something in my grandfather's pocket. My maternal grandfather was going to look in his pocket, but the old man refused him and told him to go home.
Now my grandfather was returning home alone, he was not having patience, finally he saw it in his pockets. My grandfather saw that it was 5 6 pieces of coal. He was very angry and he threw all the coal at the same time and returned home to sleep. In the morning, when my grandmother woke up to wash clothes, she found a piece of diamond from my grandfather's pant pocket, immediately she waked up my grandfather from a deep sleep and asked him where did this "diamond" come from? My grandfather had no answer to this, he immediately reached his friend's sweet shop and told him the whole story and asked who was the old man ??
The friend responded by laughing and said, "Oh man!" He was a gene. How can you be so careless? My grandfather was very sorry to hear this, and he realised, that coal became a diamond in the morning.
