Petrol pump's night shift in/पेट्रोल पंप की नाइट शिफ्ट

    यह 1960 की घटना है। उन दिनों मेरे नाना पेट्रोल पंप पर काम करते थे। वह एक हफ्ते रात की ड्यूटी करते थे और अगले हफ्ते दिन की ड्यूटी करते थे। इस हफ्ते मेरे नाना की नाइट शिफ्ट चल रही थी। यह रात भी हर रात जैसे एक आम रात थी।मेरे नाना अपने घर से रात का भोजन खाने के बाद 9:00 बजे पेट्रोल पंप पर अपनी ड्यूटी करने चले गए।पेट्रोल पंप पर पहुंचने पर उनको पता चला कि उनका दूसरा साथी बीमार होने के कारण काम पर नहीं आ पाया। अब मेरे नाना वहां पर अकेले ही ड्यूटी कर रहे थे।

    काम करते-करते मेरे नाना को झपकी आना शुरू हो गई।अक्सर रात की ड्यूटी करते समय अपनी नींद दूर भगाने के लिए वह करीब के एक चाय के ठेले पर चाय पीने जाया करते थे। वह रात भी मेरे नाना वह चाय के ठेले पर जा रहे थे। वह चाय का ठेला पेट्रोल पंप से 15 मिनट की दूरी पर था। मेरे नाना पैदल व ठेले तक जा रहे थे।

    रात के 1:00 बज रहे थे। रास्ता काफी सुनसान था, मेरे नाना अभी भी हल्की हल्की नींद में थे। चाई का ठेला अब बस थोड़ी ही दूरी पर था। अचानक मेरे नाना को चलते-चलते दूर से एक बड़े आदमी की परछाई दिखती है, जो बैठा हुआ ही एक पेड़ के बराबर दिखाई दे रहा था।घना और काला अंधेरा होने के कारण मेरे नाना को साफ दिखाई नहीं दे रहा था।वह समझ नहीं पा रहे थे कि यह परछाई किसी चीज की है या फिर कोई इंसान की।

  5 6 कदम चलने पर और थोड़ा करीब से देखने पर,मेरे नाना को एहसास हुआ कि यह एक बैठे हुए आदमी की परछाई है। मेरे नाना एकदम हक्के बक्के हो चुके थे।उन्हें समझ नहीं आ रहा था कि यह उनका वहम है या फिर सच्चाई।मेरे नाना दो पल के लिए सोच में पड़ गए कि एक आदमी जो बैठा हुआ है उसका कद पेड़ को कैसे छू रहा है। मेरे नाना सोच ही रहे थे कि मैं आगे बडू या फिर अपने पेट्रोल पंप पर वापस लौटो, उसी वक्त मेरे नाना ने देखा कि वह आदमी की परछाई कुछ हरकत कर रही है।वह आदमी ने अपना हाथ हिलाते हुए मेरे नाना को आगे ना बढ़ने का इशारा किया।

    

    उस आदमी का इशारा देखते ही, मेरे नाना ने वापस लौटने का फैसला किया। मेरे नाना ने एक बार भी पीछे मुड़कर नहीं  देखा। वह चुपचाप से बिना किसी को बताए अपने कुर्सी पर आकर बैठ गए और अपना काम करना शुरू कर लिया। अब रात के 2:00 बज चुके थे, तभी अचानक बहुत लोगों की भागदौड़ की आवाज आती है। मेरे नाना ने बाहर आकर देखा कि बाहर बहुत लोगों की भीड़ जमा हुई है।

    2 3 व्यक्ति से पूछने पर मेरे नाना को पता चला कि, पास के चाय के ठेले पर बहुत बड़ी आग लग गई है। यह सुनते ही मेरे नाना के रोंगटे खड़े हो गए और उनकी आंख भर आई।अंदर आकर मेरे नाना ने ऊपरवाले का शुक्रिया अदा किया की वह उस आदमी (परछाई)की बात सुनकर आगे चाय के ठेले पर नहीं गए और अपनी जिंदगी बचा ली।

English translation:-

 

    This was a 1960s incident.  In those days my grandfather used to work at the petrol pump.  He used to do night duty one week and day duty the next week. It was his night shift during this week. It was a normal night like very other night. After having dinner from his house my grandfather went to do his duty at the petrol pump at 9:00 pm. On reaching the petrol pump, he came to know that his other partner was ill,due to that reason he didn't came at the pump. Now my maternal grandfather was doing the duty alone.

    While working, my grandfather started to nap. He often used to go to a nearby tea shop to feel refreshed and drink tea while doing night duty.  That night aslo my grandfather was going to the tea shop to have some tea. The tea shop was 15 minutes away from the petrol pump.  My grandfather was going on foot at the tea shop.

 It was 1:00 in the night.  The path was quite deserted, my  grandfather was still feeling sleepy.  Tea shop was now just a short distance away.  Suddenly, while walking  my grandfather saw a  shadows of big man, who was sitting and his height  had reached the tree  . Due to the darkness, my grandfather could not see clearly. He didn't understood that this shadow belongs to a human being or a thing.

 After walking 5 steps and looking a little closer, my  grandfather realized that it was a shadow of a sitting man.  My  grandfather was quite astonished. He could not understand whether this was his misconception or the truth. My grandfather wondered  for 2 mins that how could a man who is sitting is touching the height of the tree.  My  grandfather was thinking that whether I should return to the petrol pump or move forward at the tea shop, at the same time my grandfather saw that the shadow of the man is doing something. That man shook his hand and pointed to my grandfather telling him not to move forward.

 Seeing the gesture of the man, my grandfather decided to return at the pump.  My  grandfather did not look back even once.  He quietly sat down in his chair without telling anyone and started doing his work.  Now it was 2:00 in the night,  suddenly there was a loud noise and a big chaos of many people.  My grandfather came out and saw that a big crowd of people had gathered outside.

 On asking 2 3 people, my grandfather came to know that there has been a huge fire on the nearby tea shop.  Hearing this, my grandfather got goosebumps and his eyes filled up. Later on my grandfather realised that it was a good spirit and he thanked god that he did not go at the tea cart after listening to the man (shadow) and saved his life.
